Trade calculations

Understand returns, losses and costs through worked examples. Change the inputs and see each step of the calculation.

Worked example

Profit and total returned

A payout percentage describes the profit on a successful trade. The total returned also includes the original stake. Compare both figures before interpreting the result.

Example inputs

Hypothetical USD amounts. No market connection required.

Total returned, including stake
$180.00
Profit if successful
$80.00
Stake
$100.00

Step by step

  1. Profit = stake × payout / 100$100.00 × 80% = $80.00
  2. Total returned = stake + profit$100.00 + $80.00 = $180.00
What the example includes

The payout is profit as a percentage of the stake, fixed for this example. Winning trades return the stake plus profit; losing trades return zero; an exact tie refunds the stake. Fees are excluded. Series assume equal stakes, the same payout and no ties.

Displayed values are rounded; calculations use the original decimal precision.
